A cataract is an abnormal condition of the lens whereby it loses its transparency and becomes clouded or yellowed, causing foggy or blurred vision. The cataract is removed during cataract surgery by an ophthalmologist.
An Intra-Ocular Lens (IOL) is an implant that replaces the natural lens of the eye. Traditionally, when a natural lens develops cataracts, it can be replaced with an IOL during cataract surgery. Once a cataract develops, the natural lens of the eye must be removed.
The majority of people will get a lens implanted (IOL) in the eye which allows vision to return to normal.

A Glucose Monitoring System (GMS) is technology that provides almost real-time glucose readings, allowing people with diabetes to see glucose levels throughout the day and night, and track how quickly they are rising or falling. The GMS does not deliver insulin - it is strictly a device that measures and records the patient’s glucose levels.
The GMS uses a tiny sensor placed under the skin which measures the amount of glucose in the interstitial cell fluid inside the body (it does not use blood for testing). The glucose levels are read by a receiver that can be clipped to the patient’s belt or they can use an app on their phone. Depending on the manufacturer, the GMS may require the use of a transmitter to send the glucose reading from the sensor to the receiver - and some must be calibrated manually using traditional blood levels via lancet and a regular glucose monitor every 6-12 hours.
The GMS can be an integral part of an insulin infusion pump OR it can be used by patients who are not using a pump at all.
